Our projects have ranged in scope from driveway access studies to master-planned communities and everything in between. Our work ranges from concept-level planning and strategies to detailed design with construction support.

Riaydh - KAFD, King Abdullah Financial District - ITS

GTS provided a Concept of Operations, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) design, Specifications and Standards, and Validation and Verification plan for King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh. ITS technologies covered included CCTV cameras, traffic detectors, automatic incident detection, variable message signs, speed feedback signs, and an over-height warning system. GTS also provided for future technologies (V2X, Tolling), future Riyadh ITS WAN connectivity, and connecting to the main command center.

Riaydh - Nahda Road - Corridor Development

GTS provided the ITS telecommunication network design for the Al Nahda project, an integral part of the 2030 vision to improve road services in Riyadh. Technologies included CCTV cameras, traffic detectors, automatic incident detection, variable message signs, tunnel management system, traffic signals, interface with public transport services, parking guidance system, and micro-mobility services. GTS also provided for future technologies (V2X, Tolling), future Riyadh ITS WAN connectivity, and connecting to the main command center.

Boulevard Riyadh City - Parking Management Concept of Operations

GTS played a crucial role in supporting the development of the parking management concept of operations for Boulevard Riyadh City, one of Saudi Arabia’s premiere entertainment and commercial destinations. The focus of the project was to define and identify the parking management system based on the needs and requirements of its end-users. To this end, GTS identified key parking demand, location, pricing, and supply strategies to be considered. GTS also proposed various operational elements that could be incorporated, including parking facility design, signage and wayfinding, technology integration, enforcement measures, and stakeholder engagement.

Jazan city -Saudi Arabia - Smart City Planning and Design

GTS provided planning and design services for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Information Communication and Technologies (ICT) in Jazan, a port city and hub for agricultural commerce where a Smart City mixed-use development is planned. Our Smart City plans included a fiber optic backbone as well as a unified platform to manage all the subsystems, such as weather sensors, smart signage, parking guidance signs, intelligent transportation systems, and utility services.

Riyadh - Traffic Control Feasibility Assessments

GTS provided support to the Royal Commission of Riyadh City in evaluating the viability of alternatives to traffic signals for intersection control, looking at roundabouts and other solutions. The assessment included a benchmarking analysis of cities worldwide that had replaced traffic signals with other forms of control, examining factors such as vehicle speeds, pedestrian wait times, life cycle costs, safety, and multi-modal efficiency. GTS utilized the Riyadh Travel Forecasting Model to strategically illustrate the impacts of traffic signal removals across the city.

Tabuk city -Saudi Arabia - Smart City Planning and Design

GTS provided Smart City planning and design services in Tabuk, a major city in northwestern Saudi Arabia. The goal of the project was to lay the essential groundwork for a Smart City mixed-use development on an identified site, envisioned as the city’s NextGen Downtown community. GTS provided a range of support services centered around Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Information Communication and Technologies (ICT), including a fiber optic backbone, wi-fi coverage plans, network operations center layout, and a Smart City layout showing the distribution of equipment and infrastructure.

Technologies included CCTV cameras, traffic detectors, automatic incident detection, variable message signs, tunnel management system, traffic signal, tunnel management system, interface with public transport services, parking guidance system, and micro-mobility services. GTS also provided for future technologies (V2X, Tolling), future Riyadh ITS WAN connectivity, and connecting to the main command center.

Riaydh - Dirab Road - Corridor Development

GTS provided the ITS telecommunication network design for Dirab Road, a planned connector that will link several major roads in Riyadh and enhance mobility to several major destinations through the addition of flyovers, bridges, underpasses, and at-grade junctions. Technologies included CCTV cameras, traffic detectors, automatic incident detection, variable message signs, road weather information system, traffic signal, weigh-in-motion, and interface with public transport services. GTS also provided for future technologies (V2X, Tolling), future Riyadh ITS WAN connectivity, and connecting to the main command center.

Kurdistan Iraq - ITS Plan (World Bank Funded Project)

Under an initiative funded by the World Bank, GTS created an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) plan for the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq, an autonomous region with a population over 6 million that includes the major cities of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Duhok.

Smart City Planning and Design: Jazan

 Khobar - Saudi Arabia - City Center and Corniche Revitalization

GTS provided a multimodal transportation system appraisal, including conceptual designs and comprehensive mobility strategies, in support to the Sharqia Development Authority for the revitalization of the historic City Center and the Southern Corniche area in al Khobar. This project brought together GTS’s expertise in technical transportation analysis with our team members’ experience in creative placemaking, designing human-scale streetscapes and transportation systems that safely and comfortably accommodate all travel modes. Our analysis included a Route Directness Index to evaluate existing connectivity and quantify the impact of potential new connectors.

Hail city -Saudi Arabia - Smart City Planning and Design

To support an initiative by the Saudi Downtown Company (SDC) to create Smart City mixed-use developments, GTS provided Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) services for a Smart City site in Ha’il, including the schematic design of a fiber optic backbone. The fiber backbone is designed to be flexible and expandable to other phases. Our scope included several additional elements such as wi-fi coverage plans, network operations center layout, and a unified platform to manage all subsystems

Riyadh - Al Faisaliah - Traffic Impact Study

The Al Faisaliah Redevelopment Project aims to become the next iconic landmark along Olaya Street in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Utilizing the Royal Commission of Riyadh City (RCRC) travel demand model, GTS completed a Traffic Impact Study presenting mitigation measures and recommendations to optimize the design of the planned development, minimizing its impact on the surrounding transportation network.

GTS provided planning and design services for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Information Communication and Technologies (ICT) at a Smart City site in Baha, a major city and tourist destination in southwestern Saudi Arabia. Our scope included a fiber optic backbone for Smart City services as well as several other elements: a Smart City layout, a unified platform to manage all subsystems, and a telecommunication network connecting all components to an overarching command and control center.

Riyadh - Concept Master Planning – Mobility Strategies

GTS played a vital role in providing mobility elements to support concept master planning projects and competitions in Riyadh. Our contributions encompassed various tasks, including data collection, data analysis, gap analysis, comprehensive site assessments, identification of site opportunities and constraints, and an overview of mobility options and strategies. These efforts were undertaken within the context of creating world-class, enlightened NextGen communities.
