GTS supported the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) components of the two-phase Comprehensive Corridor Development Plan for King Khaled Road and Jeddah Road in Riyadh. The project began with the preparation of a Concept of Operations (ConOps) that defined how ITS technologies could enhance traffic flow, improve incident management, reduce collision risks, and facilitate multimodal integration with public transport and micro-mobility services across the corridor.
Building on the ConOps, GTS developed the full detailed ITS design for both phases, covering the selection and deployment of traffic detectors, automatic incident detection systems, CCTV surveillance, dynamic message signs, lane and speed control signs, license plate recognition systems, over height detection system, road wheather information system The design process also included the development of precise device layouts, detailed telecommunications network plans, and comprehensive engineering documentation to ensure seamless system integration. GTS delivered a complete detailed design package comprising technical specifications, bills of quantities (BOQ), and comprehensive design reports, providing a clear roadmap for implementation and future operations. These efforts support the transformation of King Khaled Road and Jeddah Road into safer, smarter, and more efficient transportation corridors that address Riyadh’s growing mobility needs.
In addition to ITS design, GTS provided the methodology for the socio-economic assessment of the corridor development. This included both Benefit-Cost Analysis and Economic Impact Analysis to evaluate the effects of the project’s capital expenditure (CAPEX) and the potential economic and social benefits to the region. The study offers insight into the broader impacts of the project and supports decision-making for sustainable and effective infrastructure investment.
