GTS developed the Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) for Ezdihar Park, a large-scale mixed-use (commercial and office) development on the north side of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The TIA was prepared according to the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) guidelines. To support the analysis, GTS conducted a series of site visits, acquired custom high-resolution satellite imagery of the site, and collected Turning Movement Counts (TMC) at 17 intersections and 24-hour, 7-day Average Daily Traffic (ADT) counts at 9 mid-block locations. These datasets were used to build a model of the project area and surrounding road network in PTV Vistro, a specialized software package that was required due to the complexity of the network and scale of the project.

This allowed for an evaluation of level of service (LOS) and delay for the following scenarios:

  • Existing conditions

  • Opening year (2026) with project

  • Horizon year (2046) with project

  • Horizon year (2046) with project with mitigations

The TIA also included a queuing analysis and swept path analysis for the proposed 2,800-space parking garage. Finally, for the intersections that are expected to see LOS deficiencies, concept designs were developed for the recommended mitigation measures. These range from relatively minor improvements such as modified lane channelization to the construction of additional lanes, roundabouts, and new bridges. GTS engaged with RCRC at many junctures throughout the process and coordinated with the client through major updates to the master plan and the submittal of multiple revisions to RCRC until approval was secured.
