GTS supported Dar Engineering in developing an improved and expanded access road network for the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), a major mixed-use high-rise development in Riyadh. To enhance roadway access, GTS delivered Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) components including a Concept of Operations (ConOps), conceptual ITS design support, and final ITS design support. The ConOps outlined the essential ITS tools and operational framework required for effective traffic management, describing who uses the systems, why they are needed, and how they function while also identifying key technologies, data exchange needs, and future-proofing considerations.

The conceptual and final design phases focused on creating a robust fiber-optic backbone to support KAFD’s ITS systems. In the conceptual stage, GTS proposed locations for ITS equipment such as CCTV cameras, dynamic message signs, ramp meters, and weather stations and developed a CAD-based communications network design. In the final stage, GTS refined the design based on client feedback and provided detailed specifications including conduit sizing, splice vaults, and splicing layouts. Together, these efforts will support smoother traffic flow, reduced congestion, and improved access to this prominent destination.
