GTS prepared the Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) for Kingdom Arena, the world’s largest fully covered football stadium. To support the study, GTS conducted site visits during major sporting events to observe traffic conditions before, during, and after events. Turning Movement Counts were collected at three key intersections adjacent to the site, and existing traffic data from a recent study was used to evaluate Average Daily Traffic at surrounding mid-block locations. This information was used to assess existing levels of service and identify mitigation measures to reduce impacts on surrounding neighborhoods and improve overall traffic flow.
The TIA included a comprehensive set of event traffic management recommendations addressing vehicular circulation, parking operations, public transport coordination, and pedestrian and micromobility safety. Analyses also included queuing and swept-path evaluations for the proposed 2,800-space parking garage, as well as concept-level designs for intersections expected to experience level-of-service deficiencies. These concepts ranged from minor channelization modifications to more substantial improvements such as additional lanes, roundabouts, and new bridges. Throughout the process, GTS worked closely with RCRC and the client, coordinating master plan updates and multiple submittals through final approval, and also assessed parking access and capacity, security considerations, and emergency vehicle access.
