In alignment with the Kingdom’s 2030 Vision, the Saudi Downtown Company (SDC) is developing Madinah Downtown as a flagship Smart City, recognizing its historical and cultural significance and its role as a major urban and pilgrimage center. GTS provided the detailed design for the project, focusing on the fiber-optic backbone that serves as the primary platform for all Smart City services and ensuring seamless integration across mobility systems, public realm enhancements, environmental monitoring, utilities, and infrastructure networks.

The project site covers 41.4 hectares, located approximately 2.5 kilometers from the Holy Mosque, at a major transit intersection along the peripheral ring road. Surrounded by commercial, residential, and recreational land uses, the site is designed to maximize accessibility, connectivity, and land-use potential. GTS’s detailed design contributed to evolving the Concept Masterplan into a Detailed Masterplan, with robust urban design, phased development, and a refined mix of assets to create a vibrant downtown that balances faith, lifestyle, and economic opportunities. By delivering a comprehensive, scalable, and resilient design for Smart City infrastructure, GTS enabled Madinah Downtown to emerge as a connected, sustainable, and future-ready urban hub.
