GTS provided the detailed design for the Smart City development in Arar, supporting the Saudi Downtown Company (SDC) in creating a connected and sustainable urban environment. Arar is a strategically important city in northern Saudi Arabia, historically significant for Tapline workers and serving as a major hub for oil pumping and distribution to neighboring countries. The Tapline is recognized as Saudi Arabia’s first industrial heritage site, currently under consideration for UNESCO World Heritage status, and the city is located at the confluence of Wadi Arar and Wadi Madina, near the Iraqi border.

The detailed design focused on establishing a robust fiber-optic backbone as the primary platform for Smart City services, enabling seamless integration across mobility systems, utilities, environmental monitoring, public realm enhancements, and other infrastructure networks. By providing a scalable, resilient, and integrated design, GTS ensured that Arar’s Smart City development is capable of supporting future growth, enhancing connectivity, and delivering efficient, sustainable, and technologically advanced services to residents and businesses while preserving the city’s industrial heritage.
