GTS provided the detailed design for the Smart City development in Buraydah, supporting the Saudi Downtown Company (SDC) in creating a connected, sustainable, and future-ready urban environment. As the regional capital of Al Qassim, Buraydah is strategically located within the agricultural heartland of Saudi Arabia, with direct train connections to major cities such as Riyadh, Madinah, and Ha’il. The city has a rich history as a crossroads for trade caravans, and its fertile lands have earned it titles such as Saudi Arabia’s “Bread Basket” and “City of Dates,” hosting the world’s largest date harvest and being recognized under UNESCO’s network of creative cities for gastronomy.
The detailed design focused on establishing a robust fiber-optic backbone to support all Smart City services, enabling seamless integration across mobility systems, utilities, environmental monitoring, public realm enhancements, and other infrastructure networks. By delivering a scalable, resilient, and integrated design, GTS ensured that Buraydah’s Smart City development can support its growing population of 1.4 million, enhance connectivity, and provide technologically advanced services, while respecting the city’s cultural and agricultural heritage.
