Jazan is a region celebrated for its natural landscapes, strong cultural identity, and distinctive architectural heritage. With a notably young population, the Jazan Downtown development aims to establish an energetic urban center that supports modern living, economic activity, and community life. The Saudi Downtown Company’s vision for the area focuses on creating an active waterfront destination, integrating generous green spaces, and shaping a variety of human-scale environments that reflect coastal living. The development is also planned to reinforce key regional sectors such as fishing, tourism, and agriculture by providing streamlined facilities and a well-connected urban setting. Within this framework, GTS contributed foundational planning services to help structure the Smart City’s physical organization and long-term functionality.

The fiber backbone is designed to be flexible in what it can be used for, and expandable to other phases, with common splice vaults at regular intervals and many physical redundancy features. Our scope included several additional elements, such as wi-fi coverage plans, a layout for a network operations center, and an overall Smart City layout for the entire development, showing the distribution of equipment and infrastructure. Essential to the project’s success, we also included specifications for a unified platform to manage all the Smart City elements, such as weather sensors, smart signage, parking guidance signs, mobility systems, and utility services; and a telecommunication network connecting all components to an overarching command and control center. Geographic conditions and coastal constraints were also taken into consideration throughout the planning process to ensure the system’s reliability and long-term performance.
