Tabuk is characterized by its diverse landscapes, deep historical roots, and strategic position along the Red Sea and the northern gateway to the Levant. Its desert plains, volcanic fields, fertile valleys, and coastal stretches have long supported trade, culture, and movement across the region. With its proximity to major Vision 2030 megaprojects, Tabuk is poised for significant urban transformation. In line with the Saudi Downtown Company’s objectives, the Tabuk Downtown development aims to create a mixed-use district with a distinct urban identity, improved connectivity, and a range of human-scale environments. GTS supported this effort by contributing early Smart City planning inputs to guide the project’s long-term framework.
Rather than following a conventional linear network structure, the Smart City framework for Tabuk was shaped around a scalable digital infrastructure that can support future growth. A high-capacity fiber network forms the core of this system, designed to accommodate evolving Smart City functions while ensuring reliable performance through multiple layers of redundancy. GTS prepared the foundational elements of this approach, including the logic for splice point placement, strategies for phased expansion, and measures that support continuous connectivity across the site. Additional planning included layouts for wireless coverage, the configuration of a centralized operations facility, and a complete map of the Smart City’s physical and digital assets. To ensure cohesive operations, GTS outlined a unified management environment that brings together various Smart City elements such as environmental sensors, mobility tools, guidance systems, and essential services within a single coordinated platform. The region’s climate and varied topography were also carefully considered to achieve long-term resilience and stable system performance.
